Realizzate alla fine del<strong> XIX<\/strong> <strong>secolo<\/strong> dal <strong>b<\/strong>r<strong>esciano Lorenzo Tenchini<\/strong>, <strong>professore di Anatomia a Parma<\/strong> e allievo di <strong>Cesare Lombroso<\/strong>, le <strong>maschere in cera riproducenti il<\/strong> <strong>volto di criminali<\/strong> combinano l\u2019indagine scientifica\u00a0con una tecnica straordinariamente innovativa per l\u2019epoca.<\/p>\n<p>Le maschere furono concepite per\u00a0<strong>\u201ccatalogare\u201d l\u2019espressione e la struttura del viso<\/strong>\u00a0dei soggetti di cui Tenchini studiava il cervello, con l\u2019obiettivo di identificare possibili\u00a0<strong>anomalie morfologiche cerebrali<\/strong>\u00a0associate a comportamenti\u00a0<strong>devianti, distonici e socialmente pericolosi<\/strong>. Questo approccio si colloca nel contesto dell\u2019<strong>antropologia criminale<\/strong>\u00a0dell\u2019epoca, una disciplina che cercava di <strong>stabilire relazioni tra le caratteristiche fisiche e i tratti comportamentali e funzionali<\/strong>, con particolare attenzione al <strong>comportamento criminale<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>La collezione comprende\u00a0<strong>78<\/strong> <strong>maschere<\/strong>, di cui <strong>48 conservate a Parma<\/strong> e \u00a0<strong>30 esposte al Museo Lombroso di Torino<\/strong>.
