At the Botanical Garden are preserved the valuable herbaria and some working tools by Giorgio Jan and Giovanni Passerini; we also find a ancient herbarium of medicinal plants of the botanical physician G.B. Casapini (1722), theherbarium of Countess Albertina Sanvitale with handwritten indications by the Countess herself (1828 – 1830),the Luigi Gardoni herbarium (1836 – 1878), consisting of 269 parcels containing a diverse mix of indigenous and exotic species.

Particularly significant among the in vivo collections are those relating to medicinal plants, insectivorous plants and succulent plants. All these collections have been considerably enriched in recent years.

In addition, the famous Parma Violet, symbol of the city, continues to be propagated at the Botanical Garden.
