3. Maria Luigia’s drawing room
The section dedicated to Maria Luigia (1791–1847) focuses on the immense work carried out by the Duchess to make the new Natural History Museum great.
In addition to an original oil portrait of her, this section displays some emblematic artefacts that marked events and stages in the museum’s development.
On display are a collection of ichthyolite fossils from Monte Bolca (VR) that the Duchess donated to the University, the famous San Donnino meteorite, which fell in Fidenza (PR) in 1808 and which became part of the museum’s collection thanks to the Duchess’s acquisition of Prof. Guidotti’s collection, a narwhal tooth, loaned by the Duchess to the University by notarial deed, an Egyptian goat with related documentation of its acquisition from a Milanese zoo, together with a kangaroo also from the same Milanese zoo.
The Maria Luigia section is designed as a small period sitting room, featuring objects, documents and works of art.
