The Mineralogy Collection is the scene of research activity that intersects with that of mineralogy within the Earth Sciences area, but with strong collaborations with the Physical Sciences.
Three strands of research can be identified
1) investigations of meteorite samples from the collection
2) investigations into minerals from the Parma area, especially melanoflogites
3) investigations of a museological nature. For the first strand, thin sections were carried out on all the meteorites present, under study, and in particular on the Renazzo carbonaceous chondrite, in which a rare Ca-Al inclusion of millimetric dimensions was identified. The finding is exceptional due to the rarity of the object, which represents the first condensate within the size range in a meteorite of the Renazzo category.
