This collection consists of the remains of the living fauna found in the Terramare sites, typical prehistoric settlements in the Po valley. It was gathered up by Peregrin Strobel who was, in fact, a pioneering paleoethnologist in Italy and had also studied the Terramare settlements.
Strobel was helped by his assistant Luigi Pigorini, who became the most influential Italian expert in paleoethnology. The Pigorini National Prehistoric Ethnographic Museum in Rome is named, in fact, after him.
